Are enquiry letters ‘good-news’ letters or not?

Unsolicited and solicited enquiry letters should be considered good-news letters for the recipient. The opportunity of a sale opens up. So, the best way for the writer is to make a direct approach. The letter should open with the request that has a reader benefit. But the letter has also got to be persuasive so that a  reply is forthcoming.
